Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM)

Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) established their Winter Freeze Emergency Assistance “to assist low-income individuals and families that were affected by the 2021 winter emergency with limited repair costs and flexible spending financial assistance.”

Spring Branch Family Development Center

Spring Branch Family Development Center normally hosts a food distribution on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month; however, due to the inclement weather last week, they have rescheduled for this Thursday, 2/25 starting at 9:30am.  It is suggested that you arrive before 9:30 am to get in line since food can run out quickly.

Texas Department of State Health Services

Texas Department of State Health Services Public Health Region 6/5S has opened a temporary lodging facility in Houston to support individuals who is needing temporary housing while in isolation or quarantine. We have staff on-site to monitor symptoms and we provide three catered meals a day from Jason’s Deli. All of this is provided free of charge.

La Región 6 / 5S de Salud Pública del Departamento de Servicios de Salud del Estado de Texas ha abierto una instalación de alojamiento temporal en Houston para apoyar a las personas que necesitan alojamiento temporal mientras están aisladas o en cuarentena. Contamos con personal en el lugar para controlar los síntomas y proporcionamos tres comidas al día de Jason’s Deli. Todo esto se proporciona de forma gratuita.

We can accept individuals who meet the following criteria:
  • Have tested positive for COVID-19; OR
  • Are awaiting test results; OR
  • Have been exposed to someone with COVID-19; OR
  • Are a healthcare worker or first responder who has been advised to isolate or quarantine; AND
  • Are unable to safely isolate or quarantine; OR
  • Are homeless; OR
  • Are living with a vulnerable household member.
  • Are completely independent and can stay in a hotel room alone.
  • Have all medications and DME supplies need for duration of stay.

Please note that the DSHS facility is separate from the City of Houston/Harris County hotel. Our facility is located near IAH airport and is an extended stay hotel. We can accept single individuals, couples, and families. We can assist with transportation if needed.

Important to note: All patients entering the hotel must be completely independent and not require assistance from another person. All medications and DME supplies must accompany the person prior to entering our facility. Once a client enters their room, they cannot leave unless they have a medical emergency.  

Houston-Harris County Emergency Rental Assistance Program

The City of Houston and Harris County are working together to provide $159 million in rent and utilities assistance to families who are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds will be distributed by two agencies with established experience in helping people in need: Baker Ripley and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

SNAP/Medicaid

SNAP recipients will get the maximum amount for their household size, if they don't already, for February. Click HERE to see the maximum monthly SNAP amounts. SNAP recipients will also receive a 15 percent increase to their benefit amount through June. Recipients will receive their benefit increase on their normal payment date.

MEDICAID: Coverage for Medicaid recipients will continue during the public health emergency. Medicaid recipients who no longer meet the criteria for their current type of Medicaid coverage may be moved to another type of Medicaid coverage.
